The Medical Psychology-Neuropsychology Program has developed a broad range of administrative, clinical, teaching and research activities. The program provides administrative oversight for over 200 faculty, staff, and trainees throughout the UCLA Health System. Psychologists provide clinical service across all the divisions of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, and diverse divisions in other departments (Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, and various surgery programs).
The faculty is actively involved in teaching at all levels from pre-doctoral through post-doctoral, both for physicians and psychologists in training. Summary: This site is a University Hospital. Students will provide neuropsychological testing for adults and children in the outpatient setting. A variety of rotations, including both clinical and research tracks are offered for: geriatrics (ages 55+), adult (ages 18-55), and pediatric.

Hours: 12-14 hours per week. Students are required to complete one clinical day per week, typically from 8 am - 5 pm; choice of days are flexible. There is mandatory training on Thursdays 8 am-1pm for group supervision and didactics. This site begins August 15th each year and ends July 31st of the following academic year.
Clientele: Patients present with traumatic brain injury, seizure disorder, dementia, learning disabilities, ADHD, pervasive developmental disorders, language disorders, brain tumors, and other medical/forensic issues. There is a wide range of ethnicity and SES. Students will have approximately 1 case per week or 2-4 clients per month.

Activities: Students will provide complete Neuropsychological Battery (including WAIS-III and tests of Memory, Executive Functioning, Language, Attention, and Visual Spatial Functioning); some rotations will also provide opportunities to administer: Beck Depression and Anxiety, Hamilton Depression and Anxiety, WRAT-3, Woodcock-Johnson-III, Grey Oral Reading Test, Child Behavior Checklist, ADHD rating scales, MMMPI, MCMI, 16PF, House-Tree-Person, and Rorschach. Students typically test each week, complete scoring and norms, and start the report. For most rotations, the student will complete the report during the week at home or the following week on site. Amount of take homework is flexible depending on the arrangement between the student and supervisor. Excessive amounts of work outside of the externship day are not required and the 12-14 hour a week requirement is a strong guideline for what is expected.
Special Requirements: Prefer that the student have completed course work in Neuropsychology or have assessment experience.
Supervision: 1 hour of individual supervision with a post-doctoral fellow or licensed psychologist, and 1.5 hours of group superior per week with Dr. Miller.
Application Procedure: Interested students should submit a letter of interest, current CV, testing log, and 2 letters of reference (preferably current or previous supervisors) by March 1st.
